1st Malta India Film Festival 2018

Friday 14 December to Sunday 16 December
Malta Valletta

The first edition of the Malta India Film Festival will be held from December 14th – 16th, 2018 on the picturesque island of Malta. The festival will straddle two worlds as it brings film lovers from across the world together to witness both Indian and Maltese films that are special and thought-provoking. The Malta India Film Academy backed by the Ministry of Tourism, Malta, is an important body that works on promoting the diversity on a reel and the shared love for cinema between the two nations.

MALTA INDIA FILM FESTIVAL

The festival, to be held in December is vetted by the Malta India Film Academy, which has been set up to cross-promote film talent from either side. The Academy is made up of a strong team of film aficionados from either country who are keen to provide a platform for talented filmmakers who are not necessarily in the big league as far as budgets go. The Malta India Film Festival also hopes to generate awareness and work as a conversation starter about issues common to both these countries, but not just restricted to them. In fact, many of the issues highlighted through the films are universal in appeal.

A LOCATION FOR GLOBAL FILMS

From Hollywood to Bollywood, film producers have cast a hopeful eye on Malta since its unique topography makes for an ideal setting for a certain genre of films including, the celebrated Troy, Gladiator, Murder on the Orient Express, Captain Philips and Indian films like as well. The latest Indian film shot there is the action-packed Thugs of Hindostan. The film has brought India’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and newbie Fatima Sana Shaikh together to film in the picturesque location which offers the best of land and sea. The film set is located in a high-security water zone and is primarily being shot on board two gorgeous ships that have been customized to reflect the 18th century style vessels and slated for a November 2018 release.
