As part of the 2017 Anthony Burgess Centenary celebrations, the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Malta and the Strada Stretta Concept, under the auspices of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, are organising a three-day event in collaboration with the International Anthony Burgess Foundation and the Department of English.

The first event will be a symposium which will present the research of Prof. Andrew Biswell, Dr Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, and Prof. Ivan Callus on Burgess' Malta experience.

A screening of 'A Clockwork Orange' followed by a discussion will take place on the second evening, and Tom Armitage will perform piano scores composed by Burgess, including Ċigġifogu, written by the author in the early 1970s during his Malta sojourn.

'Burgess: The Horse of Troy at Modernism's Gates. St Augustine, Pelagius and Dnub il-Mejjet'

Prof. Ivan Callus (Department of English, University of Malta)
'Malta and Literary Fiction: The Case of Anthony Burgess's Earthly Powers'

Paper presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion.

On 13th October: A piano concert premiering scores by Anthony Burgess performed by Tom Armitage.
Venue: Palazzo de la Salle, Valletta

Guests are invited for drinks at Rocks Bar in Strait Street after the performance.

The event is coordinated by Nikki Petroni (PhD candidate, Department of Art and Art History).
