Belcanto is Bellini

Belcanto is Bellini Soprano Andriana Yordanova will be giving a sparkling recital at a lunchtime concert to be held at the Oratory of St. Francis on Friday 22nd April 2016 at 12:30pm. Soprano Astrid Cacciatore will be the guest artist. Both sopranos will be accompanied on the piano by Julia Miller “Belcanto is Bellini” is a performance that will present an interesting and fabulous programme featuring the music and songs of Bellini. Bellini was an Italian opera composer known for his long-flowing melodic lines who became the quintessential composer of the Italian bel canto era of the early 19th century. Sung by extraordinary soprano Andriana Yordanova and the emerging artist Astrid Cacciatore, this recital is going to grant the audience a truly stimulating and enjoyable experience at the Oratory of St Francis. The programme includes the aria of Giulietta from “I Capuleti e I Montecchi”, an aria of Imogene from “Il Pirata”; Vaga luna che inargenti and Ma, rendi pur contento. It will also feature an aria of Elvira from “I Puritani”, Bella Nice che d’amore, Vanne o rosa fortunate, Malinconia, Almen se non poss’io, amongst others. The lunchtime concerts are aimed at giving a platform to local and foreign artists and, it gives the opportunity for the audience to experience the charming oratory. The oratory has an interesting history as before the main church was enlarged in the beginning of the 20th Century, the large chamber was used as the refectory for the religious community. It was then transformed into an oratory, adorned by magnificent baroque paintings, a magnificent gilded altarpiece and original monks’ benches. The events are fund raising events for the Franciscan Church, which is undergoing restoration.
