Following a number of coincidences and events, it was felt that
2018 would be the opportune time to finally realise the Malta Blues
Festival. A number of key people were consulted and a committee
was created to lift this project off the ground.
The first objective was to secure a good venue and the
bands/musicians to perform. A chance YouTube post led to meeting up with Paul Audia a young and super talented Blues guitarist.
The second person/band on the bill is Steven Van Der Nat – one of the guitarists of local band The Creepers who had repatriated to
Holland and formed Little Steve and The Big Beat – a professional
blues band who are performing in Europe and who offer a great
performance.
The final person is someone who had to be Maltese and a search was made to contact Tony Grimaud – a solo performer who from a very young age left an impact on the local music scene for his great songwriting is especially known for his numbers ‘ Songs for a New Generation’. We traced Grimaud (as he prefers to be known) to the UK and again with a chance meeting over the Christmas period of 2017, and some persuasion Grimaud agreed to perform, bringing him back to a major event in Malta after an absence of 15 years.
As they say with this line up ‘ the stage is set’ and Sir Temi Zammit Hall at the University of Malta secured as a venue.
The aspiration is that the Malta Blues Festival will be an event that
will become a calendar event in Malta’s musical calendar.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who constantly supports the music scene in Malta.
