Teatru Triptiku

Teatru Triptiku, directed and produced by Jacob Piccinino, is a series of short artistic interventions around the streets of Valletta. These will tie in very closely with the Valletta 2018 narrative for the year, and therefore act as a prelude to the Cultural Programme that would kick off on the same day.

1. Festa
A few villagers represent competing bands within the cultural fabric of every village with its own band clubs. A brawl takes place during the morning march of the festa – as they face one another from opposite balconies in Republic Street, opponents decide to go head-to-head over who can throw the biggest spectacle and who can sing the best rhymes to ‘San Santu’.

2. Tombla
At Pjazza Reġina, Tombla will literally magnify the main objects comprising this game (i.e. the counters, tickets etc.) and create a comic choreography played by a group of buffoons. The game that ensues will gradually transform into a physical race of who will obtain the final sequence of numbers, between the four buffoons, inviting the public to engage in a reflection on gambling, competitiveness and its baroqueness.

3. Baħħar
Placed at Mattia Preti Square, this performance will attempt to create a mythos that is inspired by what we already know (e.g. the eyes of Osiris on the Maltese Luzzu etc.) and transpose it onto a more contemporary backdrop. In this case, the walls of the bastions, the walls adjacent to the sea and the walls of Maori will provide the perfect scenery for this spectacle to unfold. The target is to transform this space into an interactive, atmospheric site – one which the audience will be right in the middle of.

Teatru Triptiku, b’direzzjoni u produzzjoni ta’ Jacob Piccinino, huwa serje ta’ interventi artistiċi qosra madwar it-toroq tal-Belt Valletta. Dawn se jkunu marbuta mill-qrib man-narrattiva ta’ Valletta 2018 għas-sena, u b’hekk iservu ta’ introduzzjoni għall-Programm Kulturali li se jkollu l-bidu tiegħu fl-istess ġurnata.

1. Festa
Xi raħħala jirrappreżentaw baned opposti fi ħdan in-nisġa kulturali ta’ kull raħal bil-każini tal-banda tiegħu. Tinqala’ ġlieda matul il-marċ ta’ filgħodu tal-festa – hekk kif jiffaċċjaw lil xulxin minn gallariji faċċata ta’ xulxin fi Triq ir-Repubblika, l-avversarji jiddeċiedu li jikkompetu dwar min jista’ jagħti l-ikbar spettaklu u min jista’ jkanta l-aqwa rimi ma’ ‘San Santu’.

2. Tombla
Fi Pjazza Reġina, it-Tombla litteralment se tkabbar l-oġġetti prinċipali marbuta ma’ din il-logħba (jiġifieri l-bankijiet, il-biljetti, eċċ) u toħloq koreografija komika minn grupp ta’ buffi. Il-logħba li tirriżulta se tittrasforma f’tellieqa fiżika ta’ min se jikseb l-aħħar sekwenza ta’ numri, bejn l-erba’ buffi, u b’hekk tistieden lill-pubbliku jinvolvi ruħu f’riflessjoni dwar il-logħob tal-azzard, il-kompetittività u l-element barokk tiegħu.

3. Baħħar
Fi Pjazza Mattia Preti, din ir-rappreżentazzjoni se tipprova toħloq mitoloġija ispirata minn dak li diġà nafu (pereżempju l-għajnejn ta’ Osiride fuq il-Luzzu Malti eċċ) u jittrasponuha fi sfond aktar kontemporanju. F’dan il-każ, il-ħitan tas-swar, il-ħitan maġenb il-baħar u l-ħitan tal-Maori se jipprovdu x-xenarju perfett għal dan l-ispettaklu. L-iskop huwa li dan l-ispazju jiġi trasformat f’sit interattiv u atmosferiku – wieħed li se jkollu l-udjenza fiċ-ċentru tiegħu.
