Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons will be played by the internationally acclaimed Maltese violinist Carmine Lauri under the direction of Michael Laus on Easter Sunday, 27th March 2016, at St Publius Church in Floriana. The concert, which starts at 19:30hrs, is being held in aid of research in brain disorders through the University of Malta’s Research Trust, RIDT. Undoubtedly, The Four Seasons is Antonio Vivaldi’s most popular work. Consisting of four violin concertos, each gives a musical expression to a season of the year. Unusually for the time, Vivaldi published the concerti with accompanying poems (possibly written by Vivaldi himself) that elucidated what it was about those seasons that his music was intended to evoke. A 14-piece string ensemble made up of top musicians residing in Malta will support Carmine Lauri with Michael Laus at the helm from the harpsichord. The Four Seasons will be the peak of the brain awareness and fund raising campaign which is being coordinated by the RIDT in collaboration with the Malta Neuroscience Network, the Malta Chamber of Scientists, the Richmond Foundation and Malta Café Scientifique. The campaign aims to raise awareness on various brain disorders, promote brain research, raise funds for its sustainability, and to continue to demystify brain disorders and to eradicate any remaining stigma around them. The concert is supported by APS Bank and the ADRC Trust. All proceeds will go towards research in brain disorders at the University of Malta. Entrance tickets are at €60, €30 and €25.
