Description
The Malta Experience is housed in a purpose-built theatre within the Mediterranean Conference Centre, formerly the Holy Infirmary of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, located in Valletta. Since its launch in the 1980s, the show has attracted millions, presenting Maltese history on a large panoramic screen with rich music and commentary available in seventeen languages via individual headsets.
The show begins with the prehistoric inhabitants of Malta and Gozo, then traces the impact of successive waves of invaders and colonizers. It highlights key events such as St Paul's arrival and the spread of Christianity, the Knights of St John’s 250-year rule, the Great Siege of 1565, and the building of Valletta.
The narrative continues through Napoleon’s arrival, British rule, and the challenges of World War II, offering a detailed overview of Malta’s complex past. The show provides an excellent foundation for understanding the island’s culture and history.
Visitors also have the option to join a guided tour of the Mediterranean Conference Centre, known historically as 'La Sacra Infermeria,' Europe’s longest hospital ward built by the Knights of St John. Expert guides offer detailed insights into the building’s historical significance.
