Description
Take this 5-hour archaeological tour and travel back to prehistoric times at Hagar Qim, Mnajdra, and the Ghar Dalam cave and museum in Malta. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Megalithic Temples of Malta date back 5,500 years and are the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world. Continue to the fragile temples of Hagar Qim, located on a ridge capped in soft globigerina limestone on the southern edge of Malta. You will also explore the neighboring Mnajdra temples, which are considered possibly the best example of Maltese megalithic architecture still standing. The surrounding area is typical of Mediterranean garrigue (low level scrub) in its starkness, and has been designated as a Heritage Park. A few hundred meters from the temple you will discover the Hamrija Tower, one of the 13 watchtowers built by Grand Master Martin de Redin, one of the legendary Knights of Malta.Includes
