Zen Japanese Sushi Bar & Teppanyaki
authentic fine dining restaurant at Portomaso
A real quality Japanese restaurant with great service, food and location. Follow your dinner with a leisurely stroll around the Portomaso yacht marina.
The Zen restaurant is located within the wonderful Portomaso residential, commercial and yacht marina complex. Enjoying a great reputation amongst foodies on the island, Zen was the first restaurant to introduce genuine Japanese cuisine to Malta.
Zen offers a real Far Eastern experience beyond the Sushi concept which is now a pretty common sight in Malta. The menu (download link located next to contact details above) covers a wide variety of Sushi and Sashimi but also specialises in other traditional Japanese cuisine for starters and main course. Whilst offering a unfaltering top service to regular diners, the knowledgeable and friendly team at the Zen restaurant are also great at introducing this whole new dining experience to first timers. The well thought out and varied set menus are very useful in this respect.
Another unique feature at Zen is the Teppanyaki Room. Here the talented chef shows off his knife skills whilst preparing and grilling traditional Japanese food on a hot iron plate to the delight of enthusiastic diners. This is also known as Hibachi in certain parts of the world and a great feature that separates genuine Japanese restaurants from plain commercial copies.
The restaurant decor is welcoming, uncluttered and contemporary which reflects the healthy and fresh ingredients of Japanese cuisine. Both in summer and winter, Zen's views overlooking the yacht marina are wonderful.
Parking at the underlying Portomaso carpark is available for patrons making Zen a favourite and convenient option for anyone looking for a recommended restaurant in the St Julians area.
Opening hours: Mon-Sun: 19:00 - 23:00 (last order @ 22:45)
