Description
Explore the opulent Palazzo Parisio, a Belle Époque wonder in Malta, cared for by five generations of the Scicluna family. Begin your visit in the grand hall, then ascend the marble staircase to the first floor.
The Palazzo was built in the 1700s by Grandmaster De Vilhena and used as a hunting lodge by the Knights of St John. The Scicluna family acquired the Palazzo in the late 1800s and refurbished it in the latest Italian fashion.
Admire the large terrace overlooking the gardens on one side and the ballroom on the other. Discover the golden bedroom, filled with ornately-carved furniture and a bed that’s never been slept in. See the wedding dress of The Most Noble Romina Patrizia Desiree Corinne Scicluna-Marshall in the small dressing room.
Enter the music room, and take in the stunning golden furniture, commissioned specifically for the palace.
Step through the doors at the end of the room and behold the jewel in the crown - the Grand Ballroom. A gilded wonder, this palace is reminiscent of the luxurious palaces of Sicily and Naples, from which so much inspiration was drawn for the rebuilding. This breathtaking room is the perfect spot to end the tour of the palace, with a quick nip into the final room in the enfilade - the billiard room.
Once back on the ground floor, enjoy the lush gardens, starting off with the Italianate first garden, set around a canopied cruciform. Visit in early summer and enjoy the scent of jasmine throughout the gardens. To the left is the orangery, a large conservatory with a grotto fountain within. Beyond the first gardens are the botanical gardens where the winding pathways encourage more of a wandering exploration of the well-loved and expertly-tended gardens.
