Description

Step into the Maltese way of life during this three-hour, hands-on cooking experience celebrating the flavours, stories and culinary traditions of the Maltese Islands. Begin by preparing bigilla, Malta’s traditional broad bean dip, and discover how this simple yet distinctive dish has long formed part of local food culture. You will then make imqaret, one of Malta’s best-loved traditional sweets. Prepare the aromatic date filling, flavoured with spices and citrus, before enclosing it in pastry and shaping it into the characteristic diamond-shaped pieces ready for cooking. Once the cooking is complete, sit down with the other participants to enjoy a Maltese sharing platter featuring a selection of local favourites. This will include the bigilla you have prepared, ġbejniet (local cheeselets), olives, pastizzi and freshly baked Maltese bread with tomato conserve. Complement your tasting experience with a selection of Maltese soft drinks, wines or beer. As you sample the different foods and drinks, your tutor will introduce you to the ingredients, traditions and cultural influences that have shaped Maltese cuisine over the centuries. Finish the experience on a sweet note by enjoying your freshly prepared imqaret together. No previous cooking experience is required. Simply bring your appetite, curiosity and enthusiasm for discovering authentic Maltese food and culture.
