Description
The tour begins with a drive around Valletta to admire its majestic 16th-century bastions and fortifications beautifully lit after dark. The route then continues to the Valletta Waterfront, a promenade along Grand Harbour featuring nineteen restored 18th-century warehouses painted in colors representing historical goods storage: blue for fish, green for produce, yellow for wheat, and red for wine.
After free time to explore the waterfront’s heritage buildings, now home to bars and restaurants, the tour proceeds to the west-central region of Malta. Here, you visit Rabat, a village with narrow streets that was historically part of Mdina. Rabat's name derives from the Semitic word for “suburb,” and its history dates back to Roman times when the combined area was known as Melita.
The walk through Rabat’s older quarter reveals its unique charm as you prepare to move on to Mdina. Known as 'The Silent City', Mdina was Malta’s capital from antiquity through the medieval period, renowned for its medieval and Baroque architecture and fortified walls.
At night, Mdina's landmarks and alleys are softly illuminated by old lanterns, creating an atmospheric setting. Visitors can admire ancient palaces, churches, and panoramic views from the bastion walls, which offer sights of nearly half the island lit under the night sky.
