Description
The Chadwick Lakes are artificial freshwater lakes created in the late 19th century by British engineer Sir Osbert Chadwick. These lakes form Malta’s only freshwater stream large enough to be considered a rivulet, surrounded by a carefully managed system of small dams within the Qlejgħa Valley, Malta’s largest valley.
The valley hosts a rich variety of wetland flora and fauna, such as the endemic painted frog, indigenous plants, insects, tadpoles, frogs, crustaceans, riparian trees, and flooded areas sometimes covered with aquatic plants like floating buttercups.
The Victoria Lines stretch across 12 km, forming a series of British-built fortifications along high escarpments. These historic structures divide northern from southern Malta and offer wide views over the villages of Mġarr and Mellieħa, extending northwards toward the island of Gozo.
Binġemma showcases Malta’s garigue shrubland and wild orchids, along with Paleo-Christian rock-hewn tombs—some of the largest in Malta—which you will enter during the tour. The tour concludes near the rustic 17th-century chapel of Our Lady of Itria, still in use today.
