Description
Experience a ride aboard a classic Maltese 'Xarabank' bus, once common from the 1950s to 1970s and noted for their colorful designs and decorative features reflecting local traditions. These buses were uniquely painted to identify their routes before bus numbers were introduced and are now mostly reserved for special occasions.
Your first stop is the Malta Aviation Museum at Ta'Qali, located on a former Royal Air Force airfield. The museum is housed in three hangars showcasing Malta's aviation history with a focus on World War II and the post-war era. It features preserved and restored aircraft, some still flight-worthy.
Next, visit the Mosta Rotunda, a Roman Catholic church modeled after Rome’s Pantheon. It holds the third largest unsupported dome globally and is Malta's largest notable church. The church survived World War II bombings when a German bomb pierced the dome but did not explode. During the visit, you will see the church’s sacristies, prestigious objects, a detailed model, a bomb replica, the portico, bell tower, and inner gallery.
The final stop is the World War II Shelter adjacent to Mosta Church. Dug by hand in 1940 by skilled workers, the shelter offered protection to local families during frequent air raids. It now includes an exhibition about tools and traditional trades. The tour concludes with a tasting of local savouries.
