Description
The tour begins with a visit to the ancient UNESCO temples of Hagar Qim, which were built over 5000 years ago. The visitors center provides an insight into the construction process and the massive megaliths found in the temple site. Onto our next stop, we head to Wied iz-Zurrieq, known for its beautiful Blue Grotto, a small hamlet with a picturesque harbor and a system of sea caves that are home to phosphorescent marine life. A 25-minute boat trip is optional, offering a chance to explore the natural wonder and admire the crystal clear azure sea. Next, we visit the quaint fishing village of Marsaxlokk, known for its low-lying buildings and colorful traditional fishing boats called 'luzzu'. A small market lines the seafront, providing free time to explore and enjoy the local culture. The tour then continues to Cospicua waterfront, offering stunning views of the Three Cities. We will enjoy Malta's favorite lunchtime snack, the traditional 'FTIRA', which is recognized by UNESCO as a cultural intangible. The ftira is a flat bread made from sourdough filled with tuna chunks, tomatoes, capers, olives, or any other desired ingredients. The national soft drink, 'KINNIE', is made from bitter oranges and wormwood extracts and is best served cold with ice and a slice of lemon. The final part of the tour is a 2 hour walking tour of Birgu, a fortified city and the former maritime hub of the Knights of St. John. The tour takes us through the narrow streets and quaint alleys of the old Palazzos, visiting the piazza and the waterfront. The tour concludes with a short ferry crossing across the Grand Harbour, surrounded by the cities of Cospicua, Senglea, Birgu, and Valletta.Includes
