As part of the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary from the founding of the Zabbar Parish, the Società Filarmonica Maria Mater Gratiæ is organising a vocal and instrumental concert at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces in Zabbar, on Sunday, 8th May at 7:30pm. This concert is being held under the Distinct Patronage of H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta. The Band Club’s Committee deemed it fitting that for such an occasion, all the musical pieces performed will be dedicated to Our Lady of Graces, and composed exclusively by past and present Band Directors of the Society. The main event of this concert will surely be the ‘Cantata Maria Mater Gratiæ’, which was composed in 2001 by the Band Club’s Honorary Conductor, Mro. Ray Sciberras FLCM. This Cantata was commissioned by the Band Club to mark the 50th Anniversary of the crowning of the Altarpiece venerated at the Zabbar Sanctuary. During the performance of this musical masterpiece, the band, conducted by Mro. Kevin Mizzi B.Sc.(Hons), M.Sc., LLCM, AMusLCM, will be accompanied by the Mirabitur Choir under the direction of Ms. Simone Attard, the Tenor Charles Vincenti, the Soprano Rosabelle Bianchi and the Folk Singer Rita Pace. The narrator will be the author of this Cantata himself, Mr. George Peresso. Other Marian hymns and anthems which will be performed by the Band during this concert include, ‘Antifona Ave Spes Solamen’, ‘Tifħir lill-Madonna tal-Grazzja’, ‘Salve Maria Salve’, ‘Salve Regina’ and ‘Sultana ta’ Beltna. Singer Stephanie Cauchi will also be performing with the Band during the concert, while the host for this event will be Mr. George Peresso.
