SYNOPSIS OF “THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOM? CHRONICLE OF THE NORTH...”
Naa Gbewa, a prince and cavalry man, came and established his empire in the area of modern- day Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo. He was the first king of modern- day Ghana and the first to introduce chieftaincy as a system of government in this region. The documentary is about the roots of his empire, how it grew and finally fell apart. The main purpose of the project is to educate Ghanaians in the world, especially those from Northern Ghana about their connection to each other thereby promote peace and economic development in this region of Ghana.
BIOGRAPHY
Roland Suman Seini (Mandiaya) is a researcher, filmmaker and founder of Chaka Orleans Heritage Foundation. Mandiaya led a research into the origins of Naa Gbewa, founder of the Dagbamba Kingdom (Mole – Dagbani State) and produced/ directed a documentary on him titled “The Forgotten Kingdom? Chronicle of the North...”. He and his team travelled 12,000km throughout the three Northern regions of Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo to establish fact about Naa Gbewa’s empire, a history from the 11th century to the present day. Sumani Seini has worked as a strategist for the Ghana International Trade Fair 2016 in Tamale. He was a guest lecturer at University of Ghana, Legon, and Management Center Innsbruck, Austria, University of Vienna. “The Forgotten Kingdom? Chronicles of the North...” has toured festivals and institutions in Ghana and abroad such as University of Ghana, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, University of Vienna, Management Center Innsbruck, Austria, Afro Asiatic Institute, Graz, Austria, Social Machinery Festival, Italy, Goethe Institute, Accra, Chale Wote Street Art Festival, Accra, African World Documentary Film Festival, San Diego, I-Rep Film Festival, lagos. He is a producer and logistics Manager for the Chale Wote Street Art Festival organised by Accradotalt. He currently lives in Accra
