TEATRU TAL-OPRA AURORA IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE DOUBLE-BILL PRODUCTION OF CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA & I PAGLIACCI BY PIETRO MASCAGNI AND RUGGERO LEONCAVALLO 2 OPERAS ON 1 NIGHT TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF OPERA IN GOZO ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 14TH 2017.
It is a year of special anniversaries for the Aurora. 2016 marked the 40th anniversary from the opening of the Aurora, the opera house that gave birth to opera in Gozo, while 2017 marks the 40th anniversary from the first ever opera in Gozo. For the autumn opera season, the Aurora chose to celebrate this anniversary not with one but two operas - a double bill, on the same night, comprising Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci. While Cavalleria has been performed just once at the Aurora (as a foreign production) I Pagliacci will be produced for the first-time ever in what is the largest opera house on the islands.
The opera is being dedicated to Mrs Flavia Tabili, first leading soprano at the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora, cast and crew of the 1977-Butterfly, which was the first opera at the Aurora, and first opera in Gozo. Former artistic director, Novella Tabili, daughter of Mrs Flavia, will be the guest of honour, signifying the Aurora's gratitude to the Tabili family, a constant collaborator throughout its first 40 years of existence.
The double-bill of Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci - coined CavPag in short - will be accompanied by a number of fringe events to be announced in due course.
