The Shipwreck
Located off the beaten track in Birkirkara, The Shipwreck is one attraction worth a detour for anyone interested in the events of Malta’s religious beginnings... and more!
Malta’s culture and history is intrinsically linked with its Catholic heritage as is greatly evidenced by the hundreds of churches and religious buildings that adorn the islands, as well as the year round feasts and weekly customs still practiced by locals. The Shipwreck is the story about the catalyst of all this, Saint Paul the Apostle, who landed on Malta in 60AD through a series of events on his way to Rome. It is essentially the story of how one man changed the Maltese island’s history forever.
The Shipwreck is a beautifully produced docudrama. It marries historic events with local places related to St Paul’s stay in Malta and that can still be visited today. The professional production, sets and actors together with the use of CGI, multiple projectors and a 13 metre wide screen (120 degree viewing!) immerses the viewer into beautiful scenery and the drama of storms, miracles and captivating epic events.
The auditorium is housed in a lovely building in Birkirkara in the centre of Malta. The friendly and knowledge staff add to the experience and, with a well stocked onsite souvenir shop, you are guaranteed to walk away with a lovely memento of the occassion.
The wider complex is also home to a retreat house with accommodation available for pilgrimages. Your welcoming hosts are happy to organise and recommend some itineraries for religious, historic and cultural places to visit during your stay in Malta and Gozo.

What customers are saying about The Shipwreck:
'The setting is very professional - fantastic production and lovely staff! The show does not just have religious reference but also clips of Malta where St Paul visited.'
'The Shipwreck is a fantastic docudrama about the encounter of Saint Paul the Apostle and the island of Malta. It is captivating, educational and inspiring. It tells the story of the last trip of the Apostle towards Rome in 60AD. It is an experience of what Saint Paul had to go through to arrive in Malta and how this had changed its history forever... There is also an extensive gift and book shop. I took a taxi there from the centre of Valletta but returned by public bus. Not hard.'
'Large shop to browse in before seeing the film; entertaining presentation of life and times of St Paul, taken from the book of Acts, linked to places and history of the island.'
